Why do you hate me?
That is a question someone asked me today as I visited Mexico. They want to know why the US will not let them visit, will not let them live. All they want a better life for their family. As bad as we think it is for us in the economic turmoil of the US, we have it lucky. Sometimes I feel like we are just getting the kick int he pants we so greatly deserve. Talk to people who have been through real suffering, where dollars a day is considered a very good wage, and access to things we have come to expect is truly a luxury. Is it political? Is it social? Is it economic? Is it just? I wish no one any harm, but if we look at the way even kids expect things in the US it is truly no surprise that this has occurred. We needed a beat down. I just hope we can get back up, and remember that we are a country built on immigrants. If we can fix that I know other remedies will follow. Salvation through Immigration is my new mantra…I hope others buyu in and soon no one hates us, and we truly are the melting pot we once were. We truly offer hope to others. I want us to again be a beacon that others look to…Is that too much to ask?
