Rahm Emanuel – Chief of Staff

Well the early reports say that President-Elect Obama has asked Rep. Rahm Emanuel to be his White House Chief of Staff.  He is the son of immigrants and has been a supporter of immigration for a long time.  In fact he was one of the sponsors of Comprehensive Reform in the House.  But I have to tell you, from an immigration perspective this continues to make me concerned.  Rep. Emanuel has been an architect of the Democratic platform since at least the 2006 mid-term elections.  Depending where you look, the stories in 2007 were that Rep. Emanuel said immigration was off the table until sometime between 2011 and the second term.  Let’s hope that someone out there is whispering in his ear about the potential benefits immigration reform can bring to a down economy.
