Congratulations President-Elect Obama-Immigration?
Its official. They just called it, Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States. Senator McCain is conceding. So here we go…what will be the first level of agenda items? What might be taken care of during even this interim period? Can immigration finally get brought to the stand and perhaps get some attention? We can hope, can’t we….
In the last few weeks many pundits have called out for help in immigration. They have theorized how it will help the economic crisis facing this country. Please listen. Please hear. Please act.
Maybe we will finally pass the Dream Act? Perhaps it will just be rights to proper treatment for those detained? Maybe we will recapture some of the unissued visas of the past? Maybe we will recognize same sex marriages in immigration? Maybe increases to some of the capped out visa categories? Could we even consider Comprehensive Reform?
I am hopeful, as I have been in 2006 and 2007. Those hopes have been dashed before, but maybe the Change we need has finally come.
